Ca Mau Wood Processing Co. Ltd. is developing the Ca Mau Biomass Thermal Power Plant with designed capacity of 15MW in phase 1 and 30MW in phase 2. The plant is expected to produce 105 million kWh of electricity annually. The Project will use biomass residues from the wood processing activities of the Project Developer. By using internally generated biomass, the Plant will ensure maximum leverage of available resources and reduce dependence on oil and coal resources. The Vietnam Electricity Corporation (EVN) will be the off-taker of 100% of the electricity that will be generated at USD 0.074846/kWh.

The electricity demand in Vietnman had been steadily increasing. The projected demand is expected to increase to 330 - 360 billion kWh by 2020 and 700 billion kWh by 2030. In Ca Mau province, electricity demand steadily increases following expansions of Khanh An Industrial Park and Gas-Electric Industrial Park that sources their power from the national grid. The steady increase in electricity demand puts pressure on power supply. Ca Mau Wood Processing is one of the leading processed wood exporting company in Vietnam. The company has built a closed system for wood products including a nursery garden, raw material forests, and a manufacturing factory of slats - planks, and wood pellets. This existing system and activities involved generate biomass residues that may be used to produce power that may be supplied to the province.
Value Proposition
Ca Mau Biomass Thermal Power Plant will be constructed in Khanh Thuan Commune, U Minh District, Ca Mau Province on an area of 10.7 ha and with designed capacity of 15MW in Phase 1 and 30MW in Phase 2. The power plant will mainly use biomass by-producst from Ca Mau Wood Processing Plants. The company operates its own nursery and raw material forest ensuring supply for its wood processing business and consequently, the biomass plant. The stable and abundant input sources for the power plant will contribute to the sustainability of the Project. The generated electricity will be directly connected to 110KV national grid. The power plant is expected to generate 105,000000 kWh of electricity every year that will be sold to Vietnam Electricity Corporation (EVN) at the price of USD 0.074846/kWh. The Power Purchase Agreement is signed for a period of 20 years. The support and cooperation from EVN and local government enhances the economic viability of the project.
  • Other environmental impacts include ash collection system for organic fertilize manufacturing, SOx within permissible limits (less than 1%) and low NOx emissions.
  • The Project is expected to generate 200 new jobs for the people of Ca Mau. The project will improve labor quality by providing training and capacity building.
  • The Project will contribute to the power supply security in the province that will attract investments to Ca Mau province.
  • Reduces greenhouse gas emissions by 111,300 Tonnes of Carbon Dioxide per year.
